Bond of Love; India is rich in culture having diversified human race, various religions, festivals. Raksha Bandhan usually falls on a day in August. Raksha means safety and Bandhan means Bond. The brother has this promise to keep her sister safe for life time from any adverse conditions.

A thread beautifully crafted in a Rakhi, early morning both of the siblings joy this ride of love with a thread tie on brother’s right wrist and he in return gift his sister. Excitement pumped up the whole family.

The emerge of this festival dates back to Hindu mythology. In Mahabharata the great Indian epic, Draupadi wife of the Pandavas had torn the corner of her sari to prevent Lord Krishna’s wrist from bleeding.

Lord Krishna pledged to repay the debt of gratitude in her future. After many years, Pandavas lost their wife Draupadi in the game of dice to crooked Kauravas. They then had attempted to remove the saree of Draupadi that was the time when Lord Krishna protected the dignity of Draupadi through his divine powers.

There were instances when this festival was turned into a symbol of Unity between Hindus and Muslims by Rabindranath Tagore. He urged Hindus and Muslims to tie Rakhi to each other. This Rakhi incident in 1905 also showed that people of India never wanted the partition.

Rakhi represent Knot of Confidence, Thread of Trust. It is one of those festival that has permeated across time as a festival with “no religion”.
